OMINIRA CATHEDRAL TAKES INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION TO THE ALTAR…Parish hosts Ominira Day on October 1

As Nigerians across the country prepare to celebrate another Independence Day, Ominira Cathedral of the Celestial Church of Christ, along Denro-Ishasi Road, Lagos, is set to add a distinctive spiritual dimension to the occasion with its annual Ominira Day celebration on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The celebration promises to be a colourful and spiritually uplifting gathering, bringing together members of the church, worshippers, friends and well-wishers for a day of thanksgiving, worship, prayer and reflection on the state and future of the nation.
The significance of this year’s celebration is underscored by its date. Ominira, which means “Independence” in English, will be celebrated on the very day Nigeria commemorates its independence. The coincidence has given the occasion an added national and spiritual significance.

Beyond the festivities, the cathedral is expected to use the occasion to offer prayers for Nigeria, seeking God’s intervention for peace, unity, stability and greater prosperity for the country and its people.
The celebration will also provide an opportunity for worshippers to express gratitude to God for His faithfulness while reflecting on the responsibilities that accompany freedom and nationhood.
The Shepherd in Charge of Ominira Cathedral, Venerable Superior Evangelist Olusegun Folorunsho, has extended a warm invitation to members of the Celestial Church of Christ and the general public to join the parish for the special celebration.

With faith, freedom and patriotism taking centre stage, Ominira Day 2026 is expected to be a memorable gathering as the cathedral joins millions of Nigerians in celebrating the nation’s Independence Day under the banner of thanksgiving and prayer.
For Ominira Cathedral, October 1 will therefore be more than a national holiday. It will be a day to celebrate Ominira, give thanks to God and lift Nigeria before the throne of grace.
