Suspended Metro Archdiocese, Washington DC, Shepherd appeals for forgiveness, denies insulting Pastor and his wife

Venerable Superior Evangelist Michael Tunde Odubanjo, the suspended Shepherd-in-Charge of Celestial Church of Christ (C.C.C), Metropolitan Parish, Archdiocese of Washington DC, USA, has tendered an apology to the Pastor and Spiritual Head of C.C.C Worldwide, His Eminence, Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, and his wife, Mother Celestial Celine Oshoffa.

In a video recording released today, Odubanjo expressed regret over the controversy surrounding his relationship with the church’s supreme spiritual authority, appealing to Reverend Oshoffa to forgive him and not allow the alleged negative reports of detractors to influence his perception of him.

In the video, Odubanjo emphatically denied ever insulting Reverend Oshoffa or his wife, insisting that such conduct was contrary to the values instilled in him during his upbringing. He explained that he was raised to respect elders and those senior to him, stressing that he would not deliberately act in a manner that undermined those values.

The suspended cleric also appealed to the Pastor and Spiritual Head not to give credence to what he described as falsehoods being peddled against him by individuals who, according to him, habitually approach the church leader with unfavourable reports about his person.

His public appeal comes against the backdrop of disciplinary measures announced by Reverend E.M.F Oshoffa in a letter dated March 22, 2025, with reference number CCC/EMF/ODB-02/MET-US/03-25.

In the letter, the Pastor and Spiritual Head invoked the powers vested in his office under Section 120 of the Celestial Church of Christ Constitution, popularly known as the Blue Book, to withdraw Odubanjo from his position as Shepherd-in-Charge of C.C.C Metropolitan Parish, Archdiocese of Washington DC. His clergy status within C.C.C Worldwide was also suspended until further notice.

Reverend E.M.F Oshoffa attributed the disciplinary action to what he described as repeated insubordination and flagrant violations of his directives.

The letter recalled an earlier communication dated February 10, 2025, in which Odubanjo was directed not to return to the United States or resume duties at the Washington DC parish without first fulfilling all immigration requirements necessary to work as a clergyman in the country.

The Pastor further expressed displeasure over what he described as verbal insults directed at the revered seat, position and office of the Pastor and Spiritual Head.

In his concluding remarks, Reverend Oshoffa advised Odubanjo to return to his base in Italy, stating that further pastoral directives would be issued as circumstances demanded.

The Apology Video

Odubanjo’s latest video appeal has now brought renewed attention to the disciplinary matter, with the suspended cleric publicly affirming his respect for the church’s spiritual leadership while denying the allegation that he insulted the Pastor and his wife.

However, the video apology does not, in itself, constitute an announcement that the disciplinary measures have been lifted or that Odubanjo has been reinstated. Any decision on his status within C.C.C Worldwide remains subject to the appropriate directives from the Pastor and Spiritual Head.

The development will be closely watched by members of the Celestial Church of Christ, particularly those interested in the eventual resolution of the matter and the restoration of peace and understanding between the parties involved.
