Celestial Church Loses Veteran Ivorian Cleric, Ediémou Blin Jacob

Veteran cleric dies in Abidjan as Celestial Church mourns prominent figure in decades-long ministry

Adieu

The Celestial Church of Christ (C.C.C) has been thrown into mourning following the death of Reverend Pastor Ediémou Blin Jacob, a prominent leader of the church in Côte d’Ivoire, who passed away in the early hours of Monday, October 19, 2026, in Abidjan.

The respected cleric reportedly died at Clinique Farah in Abidjan after a period of declining health. His death was reported by several Ivorian media organisations on Monday, marking the end of a religious career spanning several decades.

His passing is expected to resonate deeply within the Celestial Church of Christ community in Côte d’Ivoire and beyond, given his longstanding involvement in the church’s spiritual leadership and institutional development.

Reverend Ediémou was one of the prominent figures in the leadership structure of the Celestial Church in Côte d’Ivoire, where he headed a faction of the church amid longstanding disagreements over leadership and administration. He also played a significant role in the wider religious community, particularly in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, reconciliation and interfaith understanding.

From public service to pastoral ministry

Before dedicating himself fully to the ministry, Reverend Ediémou reportedly worked in the Posts and Telecommunications service and later served in a political office as a cabinet aide to former Ivorian Commerce Minister, Maurice Séri Gnoleba.

His spiritual journey was closely connected to the founder of the Celestial Church of Christ, Reverend Prophet Samuel Bilewu Joseph Oshoffa, whom he reportedly met in 1975. The encounter marked a defining moment in his life, leading him to deepen his commitment to the church and eventually devote himself to pastoral service.

Over the years, he rose through the church’s ranks and became a prominent voice in its affairs in Côte d’Ivoire. On July 5, 2014, he was invested as national pastor of the church in the country at a ceremony held at the Saint-Raphaël Mother Parish in Vridi, Abidjan. He also held responsibilities within the church’s wider international leadership structure.

His ministry spanned decades of religious service, during which he became an influential figure among Celestial Church members in the West African country.

Advocate of peace and reconciliation

Beyond his pastoral responsibilities, Reverend Ediémou was known for his involvement in efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, national reconciliation and dialogue among religious communities in Côte d’Ivoire.

He served as president of the National Forum of Religious Confessions, an interfaith platform through which religious leaders engaged on issues affecting social harmony and peaceful coexistence.

His advocacy for reconciliation also extended to the Celestial Church itself, which has experienced divisions among competing leadership groups in Côte d’Ivoire.

In the days preceding his death, the cleric reportedly renewed his appeal for unity, forgiveness and dialogue among the different factions of the church. On October 8, 2026, he received journalists at his residence at the Saint-Raphaël Parish in Vridi, where he expressed gratitude to those who had supported him during his illness.

Religious leaders also visited him on October 13 to pray for his recovery and demonstrate solidarity with him during his period of ill health.

His death therefore comes at a time when renewed efforts were being made to bridge divisions within the Celestial Church community and strengthen the bonds among its members.

A significant loss to the Celestial community

Goodnight

Reverend Ediémou Blin Jacob’s death represents a significant development in the religious landscape of Côte d’Ivoire, particularly within the Celestial Church of Christ, where questions of leadership, unity and institutional cohesion have remained prominent.

His decades of involvement in the church, from his early association with the founder to his emergence as a leading cleric in Côte d’Ivoire, placed him among the notable figures in the church’s history in the country.

As news of his death spreads, attention is expected to turn to tributes from church leaders, members of the wider religious community and others who worked with him in the pursuit of peace and reconciliation.

Details of his funeral arrangements and other burial activities had not been confirmed in the reports available at the time of publication.

His passing leaves the Celestial Church community in Côte d’Ivoire mourning a veteran cleric whose ministry was closely associated with the growth of the church, religious engagement and the continuing quest for unity among its divided leadership groups.
